Brief introduction
Carbon brush, also known as electric brush, is widely used as a sliding contact in many electrical equipment. The main materials of carbon brushes are graphite and metal. A carbon brush is a device that transfers energy or signals between the fixed and rotating parts of an electric motor, generator, or other rotating machinery. It is usually made of pure carbon and solidifier, with a square shape, clamped on a metal bracket, and a spring inside to press it tightly on the shaft. When the motor rotates, it delivers electrical energy to the coil through the inverter. Due to its main component being carbon, it is called a carbon brush and is prone to wear. Regular maintenance and replacement should be carried out, and carbon deposits should be cleaned.
The carbon brush looks a bit like the rubber strip of a pencil eraser, with wires leading out from the top. Carbon brushes, as a sliding contact component, are widely used in many electrical equipment.
Application
The main function of carbon brush is to conduct electricity while rubbing against metal, unlike when metal conducts electricity while rubbing against metal; When metal conducts electricity through friction, the friction force may increase, and the junction may sinter together; But carbon brushes do not, because carbon and metal are two different elements. It is mostly used in electric motors, with various shapes including square, circular, and so on.
Carbon brushes are suitable for various electric motors, generators, and wheel axle machines. Has good commutation performance and long service life. Carbon brush is used on the commutator or slip ring of a motor as a sliding contact body for exporting and importing current. It has good conductivity, thermal conductivity, and lubrication performance, as well as a certain mechanical strength and the ability to reverse sparks. Almost all motors use carbon brushes, which are an important component of the motor. Widely applicable to various AC/DC generators, synchronous motors, battery DC motors, crane motor collector rings, various types of welding machines, etc. With the development of science and technology, the types and operating conditions of motors are becoming increasingly diverse.
Precautions
1.If the lead wire of the carbon brush is covered with an insulated tube, it should be installed in the insulated carbon brush holder; The lead wire is made of bare copper wire and should be installed inside the grounding carbon brush holder.
2.When installing the carbon brush onto the carbon brush holder, attention should be paid to the direction of the curved surface. Installing it in reverse may result in a small contact surface and weak or no power generation.
3. The carbon brush should be able to rise and fall freely in the carbon brush holder. If there is any sticking phenomenon, the excess part should be ground off.
4. The carbon brush spring should be pressed in the center of the carbon brush to prevent uneven force and uneven wear.
5. The contact area between the carbon brush and the commutator should not be less than 3/4 of the entire contact surface, and the carbon brush should not have oil stains.
